ECUDeck

CAN bus analyzer · DBC decoder · UDS tester · DoIP tester

A CAN bus analyzer and UDS/DoIP tester for macOS, Windows and Linux.

Watch and decode CAN traffic with your own DBC files, record and replay traces, and run ISO 14229 UDS diagnostics over ISO-TP and DoIP, in one desktop app. Every connection opens listen-only. A built-in MCP server lets Claude and other AI agents read the same bus you see; an agent never transmits on its own, it asks, and you allow or deny each request.

One app for the bench

Stop switching between a sniffer, a DBC viewer, a UDS script and a DoIP tool.

The same connection list, trace view, keyboard shortcuts and safety rules for CAN and DoIP. Built as a desktop app for the three systems engineers actually use, including macOS.

CAN bus monitor

in the prototype
  • Live view by identifier or as a trace, classic CAN and CAN FD
  • Changed bits highlighted, counters and rates per identifier
  • Decoding with your own DBC files: multiplexing, value tables, floats
  • Adapters: slcan today; PCAN, SocketCAN, gs_usb and Kvaser in development

UDS tester (ISO 14229)

core in the prototype
  • ISO-TP (ISO 15765-2) for classic and FD frames, flow control, STmin
  • Sessions, TesterPresent, ReadDataByIdentifier, read and clear DTCs
  • Negative responses in plain words, response-pending handled
  • Pro: DID browser, routines, SecurityAccess hooks, upload and download services

DoIP (ISO 13400)

in development
  • Vehicle discovery on the network, no adapter needed
  • Routing activation, then the same UDS tester over Ethernet
  • Header and payload codecs with byte budgets against bad gateways
  • Pro: TLS on port 3496, several gateways at once

Record, replay, export

in development
  • candump logs and CSV in every plan
  • Pro: PEAK TRC, Vector ASC, MF4, pcapng; replay onto a bus after confirmation
  • J1939 identifiers and CANopen COB-IDs decoded; names from your own DA or EDS
  • Simulated vehicle built in for tests and onboarding

Listen-only by default

Sending a frame is never one click.

Every connection opens silent. ECUDeck asks the adapter to confirm listen-only mode where the firmware can and refuses to transmit when it cannot. Connections have a role: lab, bench or vehicle; on a vehicle every send needs the connection name typed. The check runs in the app's backend, not only in the UI.

Offline activation

Built for benches without internet.

ECUDeck runs without internet and without an account. Activate a Pro or Team key with a request file and a response file carried from any online machine. No cloud, no telemetry.

MCP server for AI agents

Ask Claude about your bus.

The built-in ecudeck-mcp server gives Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or any MCP client your saved connections: live frames, decoded signals, DTCs and traces. Agents never transmit on their own: with Pro they ask, and you allow each request in ECUDeck. Every call is logged. How it works

Pricing

Free core. Pay once for Pro.

Every plan has CAN, UDS and DoIP. Prices in USD; tax is added at checkout where it applies. These are the planned prices; nothing is on sale until a working build is out.

FAQ

Questions engineers ask

Is ECUDeck a workshop scan tool like FORScan or VCDS?

No. ECUDeck is an engineering and diagnostics workbench for people who work with CAN buses and ECUs: it shows raw and decoded traffic, records and replays it, and runs standard ISO 14229 UDS requests over ISO-TP and DoIP. It ships no manufacturer databases, no security-access keys and no coding, immobiliser or odometer functions. Bring your own DBC files and DID lists.

Which CAN adapters will it support?

The first release targets slcan devices (CANable with the stock firmware, Lawicel-compatible), PEAK PCAN-USB through PCAN-Basic on Windows and Linux and libPCBUSB on macOS, and SocketCAN on Linux. gs_usb (candleLight firmware) and Kvaser are planned after that. Today the prototype talks slcan and its own virtual bus; the other drivers are in development. DoIP needs no adapter at all, only an Ethernet connection to the gateway.

Why listen-only by default?

Because the most expensive mistake on a bench or in a car is a frame you did not mean to send. Every new connection opens in listen-only mode; ECUDeck asks the adapter to confirm silent mode where the firmware can, and refuses to transmit when it cannot. Transmission is a deliberate step you switch on per connection, and on connections you mark as a vehicle each send asks for a typed confirmation.

Can an AI agent send frames or clear DTCs?

Not on its own. The built-in MCP server only reads unless you set a connection to let agents ask. Then every request is shown in ECUDeck with the exact frame or UDS service, the adapter, the bitrate and the agent's reason, and nothing is sent until you click Allow. UDS writes, routines and ECU resets sit behind a second, stricter gate. Every decision is recorded in a local write log.

Does it work without a car or an adapter?

Yes. ECUDeck has a simulated vehicle built in: a CAN bus with engine and body frames and an ECU that answers UDS requests (VIN, data identifiers, DTCs, clear). It is how we test, and it is the quickest way to see what the app does before you plug anything in.

Does it work offline and on air-gapped benches?

Yes. ECUDeck needs no internet to run and has no account. Pro and Team keys can be activated offline: the app writes a request file, you activate it at ecudeck.com/activate from any online machine and import the response file.

Which trace formats?

Free records candump logs and exports CSV. Pro adds the other formats on the roadmap: PEAK TRC, Vector ASC, MF4 and pcapng, plus replay of any recording onto a bus, after your confirmation. A clean-room BLF reader is planned later.

What does Pro $149 one-time mean?

You pay once and get every update released for one year, on up to 3 of your computers. After that year the last version keeps working for good; renewing is optional. The prices on this page are our plan, not a sale: nothing can be bought until a working build is out.

When can I download it?

ECUDeck is in development. The core (CAN frames, DBC decoding, ISO-TP, a UDS client, DoIP codecs, candump traces) and the desktop app with its simulated vehicle run on our machines; adapter drivers and the UDS tester screen are being built now.
